Recently, our team attended a property in Belmont to conduct a roof inspection following storm damage caused by the severe weather events across the region in December.
On arrival, we quickly identified that conventional roof access was not possible.
The building façade was lined with asbestos wall panelling, which meant that setting up ladders or accessing the roof in a typical manner would pose unnecessary risk and was not an option we were willing to consider.
Normally, in situations like this, our next solution would be to deploy our drone to safely inspect the roof from above.
However, this property sits within a designated aviation restriction zone due to its proximity to Perth Airport.
Because we were directly under the flight departure path, drone operations were tightly controlled, and we were unable to obtain the required flight approvals from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
Our team coordinated with all relevant stakeholders and arranged the use of an Elevated Work Platform (EWP) to gain controlled access to both the lower roof and the warehouse roof areas.
With appropriate planning, approvals, and safety procedures in place, we completed the inspection efficiently while maintaining strict compliance with all safety and regulatory obligations.
